What is the difference between Guided Seminars
and Self Study?
The Guided Seminars provide a highly disciplined study-intensive
approach to covering and reinforcing 100% of the required material
under the mentoring guidance of a university professor. The approach
is ideally suited to first-time sitters who need a complete "A-to-Z" review
or for repeaters who feel they need structure and discipline to drive
themselves through the material.
The Self-Study Course provides a more flexible approach to preparing for
the exam. If you are a CPA Exam repeater and have developed mastery of
some of the required material, you can use the Self-Study Course to focus
your available time on your weaknesses, enabling you to use your time most
efficiently. Typically, you will simply "test out" of the areas
that you know well. The Self-Study Course is also suited to first-time
exam sitters who prefer the freedom of designing their own study program.
How long does it take to complete the CPAexcel
Guided Seminar?
With the Guided Seminars, you may participate in an individual
exam section or the entire series of four exam sections.
Individual exam sections for the standard or extended courses
require 30 - 40 days to complete. The schedule is intensive
and requires an up-front commitment of 2 - 3 hours per
weekday and 8 hours per weekend. Thus, the typical study
commitment is 18 to 23 hours per week, compared to 30 to
40 hours per week to achieve a comparable level of knowledge
using a classroom seminar. The Intensive Course requires
15 days to complete each exam section.
How do the Guided Seminars Work?
The Seminars are based on the CPAexcel Courseware.
You briefly connect to the Internet to receive scheduled
assignments and personalized guidance from your seminar
mentor through the Message Center. You study the text and
perform the related tasks offline. When completed, you
connect briefly to the internet to upload your scores.
The Seminar Home Page -- This is a set of Internet pages containing all
the information about the individual seminar, including the starting
date, schedule, mentor’s profile, and a personal web page for each
student enrolled. Both you and your mentors have access using your respective
Internet browsers.
The CPAexcel Message Center -- All Guided Seminar assignments are posted
in the CPAexcel Message Center within CPAexcel. For maximum efficiency,
each task within an assignment is linked to a corresponding section of
study materials in the CPAexcel Courseware, so that by clicking on a
task you can instantly go directly to the study material. The Message
Center is also where you post your study-related questions and where
professors provide replies to those questions daily.
What are Guided Seminar assignments like?
When you purchase a CPAexcel Guided Seminar, you
may enroll in the exam section(s) of your choice.
On the start date of the seminar, you will be notified
by email that the first assignment has been posted in your
CPAexcel Message Center.
You will then launch your CPAexcel Courseware to view
and begin the first assignment, then proceed to perform
each task in the assignment.
When you have completed all of the assignment tasks, you
will connect to the Internet and upload your scores (by
clicking the 'upload' button) to register your successful
completion of the assignment.
At any time during an assignment, you may pose questions
to your mentor in the Message Center.
The day after each assignment due date, you may visit
your CPAexcel personal page to receive a complete report
on your progress from the seminar mentor.
